Typically when considering all the various cloud services providers are talking about the three big giants in the market: Amazon, Google Cloud, and AWS. Today however, going further to compare only two of them – Google Cloud vs AWS – we can really see some big differences. For example, how can one of these giants deliver world class IT services while the other one lags behind? Furthermore, why are they (AWS and Google Cloud) so competitive? Today in this article we’ll take a closer look at these topics to learn more about the competitive advantages of these two giants.
So what are these advantages, and why is AWS the clear leader even with AWS’s rapid growth? The first major advantage is its global scale. AWS already serves thousands of global customers, whereas Google Cloud is still limited to most of US, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. This means that while AWS claims to provide ‘the biggest cloud in the world’ they have yet to actually exceed Google’s scale. The second major advantage is their unique position in the market. Google offers a lot of benefits to cloud providers such as access to data centers, direct infrastructure, flexible licensing options, and more.
On the other hand, there are some limitations with AWS’s unique advantage: its infrastructure is not as robust. And although it provides the lowest pricing of all cloud providers, many businesses are finding it hard to justify investing in AWS when they can easily get the same security and features for less money by going with another web hosting provider. And finally, although Google’s cloud has a huge global footprint, some areas such as India are still not covered. If your business operates out of the country, this disadvantage might be a significant drawback.
On the other hand, there are some unique advantages that have been overlooked by most companies when they compare AWS’s advantages to those of Google. First, AWS is rapidly expanding its cloud security coverage which provides greater value to customers. While its competitors continue to expand their U.S. presence, AWS has made its presence much more global through acquisitions and partnerships. In addition, AWS is also aggressively pursuing software development partnerships with enterprise software vendors to gain a wider global reach.
However, even with these advantages, we don’t believe that AWS has surpassed google cloud security in terms of overall customer benefits. For instance, while AWS manages a much larger footprint, it does not offer as wide a selection of add-on tools and services for managing its massive cloud infrastructure. Google’s own platform, Google Compute Engine, does have greater depth and breadth of tools for managing infrastructure, managing security, reducing Costs, and expanding the user’s control.
